1.When did you discover your love of skincare?
I have loved skincare my whole life!! At the age of 4yrs, I broke into a neighbours’ house and ‘borrowed’ all of her face cream…I am not promoting ‘Breaking and entering’ however you can now get where my obsession began!
2.Tell me about your skincare range?
Suzy H Skin Nutrition is Clinical Grade: Scientific Skin Nutrition, WITHOUT the supermodel, fancy packaging or the expensive price tag! All ingredients are top-notch. Although I am the Founder of Suzy H, there are 3 of of us behind the brand, who are Jack Hammond: Scientist/Compounding Pharmacist and Andrew Argyrou: Pharmacist. Both of these men are passionate about creating skin care products that give outstanding results, and promote great skin.
3.What is your POD (point of difference) with your brand?
Primarily the price and I’m passionate about keeping it ‘real’ (for want of a better description) and ‘Taking the B.S out of skincare’. Previously, I use to pay up to $155 for a clinical skincare product: stabilised Vitamin C 10% serum – it was good, but my equivalent is $49.95 with the same result. I think everyone deserves the right to have good skin. I am transparent and accessible to my customers, who can contact me any time for advice and I’m happy to answer any questions.
I have an important message behind ‘Suzy H’: Anti-bullying advocacy. I am about bringing back the ‘Sisterhood’, where women should celebrate one another – as opposed to insulting each other. Therefore, when my business exceeds target, a percentage will be donated to Suicide Prevention, Anti bullying and Mental health organisations. My moto is ‘Helping you love who you see in the mirror’.
4.Is there a secret for youthful and unblemished skin?
I have always looked after my skin and do not believe there is any one potion or lotion, that will make you look 18 yrs again! It’s about looking good for your age, having said that I do believe the right combination of clinical grade glycolics, topical vitamins and peptides ( which is what Suzy H is about) has helped maintain my skin to optimal condition. I also take collagen capsules and have done so for 9 years. I will never stop – these are amazing, and a whole body treatment. ‘Suzy H’ has collagen capsules containing 100% bouvine collagen, Hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C.
5. What is your favourite social media platform?
Facebook and Twitter are my favourite platforms at the moment. Although TV ads are our next ‘Port of Call’ to share our story.
6. Where can I buy your skincare ?
Now, just on-line at suzyh.com.au We ship anywhere in the world. It’s also sold in-store at Priceline Pacific Fair, Broadbeach Gold Coast where I currently work as a Skincare specialist/Cosmetician. At the moment we are giving away a FULL sized free product with any $50 purchase on-line. Every week it’s something different!
7.What is the most important lesson you have learnt when working in beauty?
Less is more! When you start using quality Clinical Grade skincare you don’t need a lot of makeup! Many women buy cosmetics they don’t need really. Don’t be fooled by a hefty price tag – just because something is expensive doesn’t mean it’s premium or quality. The skincare/cosmetic industry is synonymous for charging a fortune, and we buy it.
8.What is in your makeup bag ?
My Snake venom peptide wrinkle Cream is a quick fix and long-term treatment. I apply it when I feel like a quick ‘pick me up’….especially around the eye area, lip gloss, Thin lizzy bronzer, Wet wipes and Nivea Q10 hand cream. I don’t feel the need to wear much make up now since using Suzy H, my skincare range.
9. What is your favourite inspirational quote?
My own Quote. “Its hard enough to ‘Survive’ let alone ‘Succeed’ so be kind.”
10.What makes you smile?
My husband and four (adult) kids…we laugh a lot together, and have fun!! They all keep me ‘Grounded’!
How do you feel about getting older? Do you embrace the fact, or deny the inevitable? According to the UN report, in 2050, there will be over 2 billion people that will be over 60 years old, globally. Most of the ageing population, is prevalent in developing countries. So this alarming statistical information, highlights the need for increased healthcare services, especially dementia. There is now over 7 million new cases of dementia, diagnosed worldwide annually, according to statistics. Amazing. I will be over 60 years old, in 2050, one of those ‘aged’ people. Great. Turning another year older in a few weeks, only brings a smile to my face. On reflection, life has been an incredible kaleidoscope of events, adventure and advancement. Ageing is mere reality, beauty and truth.
“Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.” – Mark Twain
Both intrinsic and extrinsic qualities define beauty. Every human being has something to offer, however ‘beauty’ changes, with age? Right? Our body gravitates and our minds are challenged daily, by other people and experience/s. I constantly question myself about the idea of cosmetic surgery, namely botox, suggesting this might eradicate crows feet and wrinkles, perfecting skin tone. I know many friends who are addicted to this minor procedure, to possibly look younger, or stunt the ageing process. So being flawless on the exterior, is something that maybe achievable, but what about the interior? Insecurities, anxiety, low self esteem and/or poor confidence. I think these issues are much more important. Working on your own ‘self’ through exercise, therapy, discussion groups, lifecoaching sessions, you name it, this is beauty. When you are happy in your own skin, and look in the mirror and love your reflection. That is something to be marveled at, naturally.
“Beauty is not caused. It is.” – Emily Dickinson
